Not sure how you all feel about it, but for me, Nemesis is really just about situational comedy and drama. Yesterday’s game was going great—I hit both objectives—only to die on my last three dice rolls. There were plenty of funny and exciting moments, but the luck of the dice keeps ruining the fun for me, over and over again.
Even if it’s frowned upon, we have a house rule where you always roll two dice in combat and pick one result. It’s a small simplification that really helps cut down on frustration.
Oh come on, that’s just being negative, pff. If you guys have more fun that way, then who cares what others say? Personally, I think the game would be much better if the aliens had fixed HP, and honestly, the Queen could totally be handled with that card mechanic.
I’m not a fan of fixed health points. Why should every Xeno have the same amount of HP? And why should I know in advance that it’ll die after three shots or hits?
For me, that uncertainty is exactly what works.
For me, it’s not just about dice luck alone. You can reduce noise checks by moving carefully. You can avoid fights or try to gear up to the teeth. But even then, you can’t prevent some really nasty events from happening, or force yourself into a noise check during the Xenos spread phase...
That’s what makes the game so exciting for me—death lurks around every corner, you’re never truly safe, and you always have to expect the worst. That’s the real appeal. It’s also a game that feels like an awesome adventure story even when you lose, and it’s just plain fun :)

Yeah, the dice do ruin my fun from time to time, but I still love this game. Maybe it’s a love-hate relationship 😅
