Travel across Japan as it was 150 years ago! The Travels of Isabella Lucy Bird is a roll-and-write game that retraces the journeys of Isabella Lucy Bird, the real-life British explorer. Players draft dice to choose their actions, tracing their travel routes across a map of old Japan while completing journal cards. Higher-value dice allow more powerful actions, but using the dice of each color in ascending order earns a large bonus at the end of the game. Players must therefore think carefully about which dice to use, and in what order. As they travel, players deepen their knowledge of nature, culture, and faith, gathering materials to complete their journals and score points. In addition, when a town they have actually visited matches the town on a completed journal card, they earn extra points. Planning your journey while making the right dice choices each round is the key to victory.
Engames
Engames – original board games from Toyama, Japan Engames is a board game publisher based in Toyama, on Japan's Sea of Japan coast. Our mission is to connect Japan and the world through board games: we bring great games from around the world to Japanese players, and we create original games that could only come from Japan and share them with players everywhere. Founded in 2017 as Toyama's first board game café and shop, Engames has grown into a full-range board game company. We design and publish our own titles, localize overseas games into Japanese, and distribute to around 400 retailers across Japan. Our home base, the Engames Board Game Studio in Imizu, is one of the largest board game shops and play spaces in Japan, with over 1,300 titles in stock and more than 800 games available to play on site. Our original line-up includes the trick-taking games Can't Win! (designed by Taiki Shinzawa) and Nokosu Dice, as well as Ghost Lift. We work with partner publishers in Europe and North America to release these games in local languages — Nokosu Dice, for example, is available in German from Pegasus Spiele. Publishers and distributors interested in licensing our original titles, or in bringing their own games to the Japanese market, are very welcome to stop by or get in touch.
