What it's about

Can't Win! Bid your tricks — then choose which cards you can't win with. Can't Win! is a bidding trick-taking game with a devilish twist. At the start of every round, you look at your hand and predict exactly how many tricks you will take — and then you choose your own "Can't Win" rule: a constraint that decides which cards cannot win a trick for you this round. That choice is a double-edged sword. Lock away the right cards and your hand becomes easy to control; pick wrong and a perfectly planned bid falls apart. The core is instantly familiar to any trick-taking fan — must-follow, trumps, 48 cards — but the constraint turns every hand into a fresh puzzle of hand-reading and self-restraint. You score for the tricks you win and for hitting your bid, and at the end of the game the two totals are multiplied, so neither can be neglected. A beginner variant with support tokens makes the first game easy to learn. Designed by Taiki Shinzawa (luz, Maskmen), one of Japan's most inventive trick-taking designers, and illustrated in charming 16-bit dungeon-crawl pixel art by Sai Beppu (Nokosu Dice, Ghost Lift). The new title from Engames, publisher of Nokosu Dice and Ghost Lift.

Engames's website ↗

Engames – original board games from Toyama, Japan Engames is a board game publisher based in Toyama, on Japan's Sea of Japan coast. Our mission is to connect Japan and the world through board games: we bring great games from around the world to Japanese players, and we create original games that could only come from Japan and share them with players everywhere. Founded in 2017 as Toyama's first board game café and shop, Engames has grown into a full-range board game company. We design and publish our own titles, localize overseas games into Japanese, and distribute to around 400 retailers across Japan. Our home base, the Engames Board Game Studio in Imizu, is one of the largest board game shops and play spaces in Japan, with over 1,300 titles in stock and more than 800 games available to play on site. Our original line-up includes the trick-taking games Can't Win! (designed by Taiki Shinzawa) and Nokosu Dice, as well as Ghost Lift. We work with partner publishers in Europe and North America to release these games in local languages — Nokosu Dice, for example, is available in German from Pegasus Spiele. Visit our booth to play and buy our latest games. Publishers and distributors interested in licensing our original titles, or in bringing their own games to the Japanese market, are very welcome to stop by or get in touch.
