Game moment
The Fog: Escape from Paradise
🇩🇪 Original in German
I actually saw the prototype of this game being developed bit by bit over several years at Essen. A solo developer kept refining it and presenting it every year, putting a ton of heart into it—that always impressed me, even if the game itself felt a little too abstract to me. Still, I was happy when I saw it finally get produced after all those years. The cover art is amazing, and the game components themselves are really nice. A friend of mine picked it up (pro tip: always give gift cards from the game store for birthdays—the ROI is high 😉), and we played it for the first time. The individual tile rules in expert mode are just about clear enough to plan ahead, and I ended up liking it more than I expected.

I backed the Kickstarter campaign back then and I never regretted it. It's still fun to play. I was also impressed by how much work Robert from Xollox Games puts into it. I've even seen him at smaller conventions. Last year at Spiel, he presented the sequel to The Fog. The Kickstarter campaign for that is supposed to start next year. However, it'll be a slightly smaller game based on cards.
