The old, somewhat affordable version. Really good game, even if a bit clunky—though I bet the new one fixes that. Even my wife liked it ("Star Wars and Star Trek are the same").

We haven’t played in forever. 2 reasons for that: 1. Too much luck factor when drawing space parts at the start if you’re exploring. Good parts can really boost you, but bad ones basically take you out of the game. Super annoying because then the game drags on forever. 2. With us, it usually boiled down to one big mid-board fight in the final round. Before that, just NPC fights, barely any skirmishes between players. Because if you lost ships there, neighbors were always ready to exploit the weakness and basically take you out of the game. Might’ve been group-specific, but it usually only made 1-2 players have fun. The actual ideas with the research and ship type upgrades were pretty cool though.
