Mega Empires: The Silk Road is a versatile expansion set for Mega Empires. It includes additional maps that create geographical connections between all games in the series and adds components for 2 more empires, enabling gameplay for any number of players ranging from 3 to 30. This expansion centers on the legendary Silk Road, which linked the Far East with the Middle East and the Western world. Its maps cover the area north of the Himalayas, incorporating the Tibetan Empire and Zhangzhung Kingdom into the game. These new maps and empires provide many alternative game setups for both The East and The Far East . Additionally, it includes the Age of Grandeur Module, which is an upgrade to The Special Buildings expansion(s). It adds cards with unique effects to the special buildings of each of the 30 empires, as indicated on large cards that players receive when constructing a special building. Whoever controls the building can use its unique effect to their advantage.
