Play any song you like. Listen. When you hear a word being sung, grab the card. Most cards wins. That is the whole rule, so strangers can start playing thirty seconds after sitting down, and every song makes a new game. Six Moment cards score on things you hear rather than words, such as a handclap or a solo, so players who do not catch every lyric still compete on equal footing. Ten Mixtape cards add variants that turn the speed contest into a game of endurance. CARU-UTA has been played in Japan since 2016. This is its first English edition, newly authored for English rather than translated. Bring your own playlist and try it at the stand.
Xaquinel
Xaquinel Inc. /saˈɡwiːnɛl/ is a board game publisher based in Kawasaki, Japan. We started in 2013 as an indie team and incorporated in 2018. Our catalogue is built on two ideas we call age and meta: games that lift the energy in a room, and games that take the small habits people already share and turn them into something you play. Our flagship is CARU-UTA, a music party game. Put on any song you like, listen, and grab the word cards as you hear them sung. Since 2016 the series has sold more than 160,000 copies in Japan and produced twelve officially licensed editions with recording artists and entertainment IP, among them Porno Graffitti, Da-iCE, GRANRODEO, SID and THE iDOLM@STER. At SPIEL 2026 we are premiering CARU-UTA: English Edition. It is a new edition authored for English, not a translation of the Japanese deck. Playable copies are at the stand, so bring a song you like and try it. Publishers, distributors and retailers are welcome.
