In „Mykerinos“ leiten die Spieler archäologische Kampagnen und wetteifern darum, Relikte aus dem alten Ägypten zu entdecken, während sie sich die Gunst einflussreicher Mäzene sichern. Doch die Ausgrabungen sind nur ein Teil der Herausforderung – die abschließende Ausstellung im Museum entscheidet darüber, wer sich dauerhaftes Ansehen verschafft. Das Spiel wird über vier Kampagnen gespielt. Jede Kampagne führt eine neue Ausgrabungsregion ein, die aus Wertungsbereichen besteht, welche aus Paaren von Parzellenkarten aufgebaut sind. Die Spieler verwalten einen begrenzten Pool an Archäologen und müssen entscheiden, wie sie diese einsetzen: - Eine Ausgrabung beginnen - Eine Ausgrabung erweitern - Einen zuvor gewonnenen Mäzen um Unterstützung bitten - Passen und sich Vorteile bei der Zugreihenfolge sichern Mäzene bieten einzigartige Fähigkeiten und eröffnen neue strategische Möglichkeiten für zukünftige Kampagnen. Sobald alle Spieler gepasst haben, wird jeder Wertungsbereich nach dem Mehrheitsprinzip ausgewertet. Die Spieler dürfen der Reihe nach entweder eine Parzellenkarte beanspruchen – wodurch sie Prestige sammeln und einen Mäzen gewinnen – oder Archäologen ins Museum schicken, um ihre Abschlussausstellung zu stärken. Am Ende der vierten Kampagne wird Prestige für gesammelte Parzellenkarten, durch den Einfluss im Museum gewertete Mäzenkarten und vervollständigte Sätze aller fünf verschiedenen Mäzene vergeben. Der Spieler mit dem höchsten Prestige wird zum berühmtesten Archäologen. Diese Sonderausgabe feiert das 20-jährige Jubiläum von „Mykerinos“ mit komplett überarbeiteten Spielkomponenten und atemberaubenden neuen Illustrationen von Amelia Sales und Pedro Soto. Darüber hinaus enthält „Mykerinos – Sonderausgabe“ alle Zusatzinhalte in einer Box: die „Nil“-Erweiterung, einen Schnellspielmodus und einen Team-Modus für vier Spieler, die neue Möglichkeiten bieten, diesen modernen Klassiker zu entdecken und zu erleben.
