ThemeThe life of a catfrom playful kitten to wise elder
English A hit in Japan. Now coming to the world. 100% funded in just one day. ¥2.66 million raised. 266% funded. Cat years is a cute, joyful, and bittersweet board game where you experience the entire life of a cat—from kitten to senior. After receiving an overwhelming response with its Japanese prototype at SPIEL Essen 2025 , Cat years returns in 2026 with its English & German edition—available for the first time at SPIEL Essen. A Kickstarter campaign featuring an exclusive edition will also launch in October. Live a whole cat’s life. One roll at a time. Roll the dice and live the life of a cat. The gameplay is simple: Roll the dice, move your cat, experience the story on each space, and collect Happiness and Items along the way. The first milk you ever tasted. A cicada or lizard you proudly brought home for your human. You might even fall in love in a dream. Every space tells a story. Every space features a carefully written story from a cat’s point of view—like a scene from a picture book or novel. These stories aren’t just background flavor. They are an essential part of the game itself. Where you land and what you experience shape a different life for every cat. Three life stages. A game that grows with you. In Cat years, a cat’s life is divided into three life stages: Kitten → Adult → Senior And as your cat grows, not only the story, but the rules themselves begin to change. As a kitten, your worried human follows behind as you explore the world without a care. As an adult, the two of you become a perfect team and move together. And when you become a senior, even if you roll a 6, you can only move 3 spaces. Now older, you and your human slow down and walk at the same gentle pace. As your relationship changes, so do the rules. Items become Memories. The Items you collect as a kitten and adult also take on a new meaning when you become a senior. Your first milk. A cardboard box. A cicada caught in the garden. Turn the cards over, and the Items you collected throughout your life become irreplaceable Memories . They’re the same cards—but somehow, they no longer feel the same. And as Memories, they bring you even more Happiness than they did as Items. Simple rules. A whole life within them. Roll the dice. Move your cat. Experience the stories. Collect Happiness. The rules are simple. But as your cat grows older, the meaning of the game—and even the meaning of everything you experienced along the way—begins to change. Simple rules. A whole life within them. Rules Video https://youtu.be/AS9FXO14Qd0 Please note: The video shows Japanese prototype components under the former title “Cat’s Life.” The final product title is “Cat years.” Deutsch Ein Erfolg in Japan. Jetzt kommt Cat years in die Welt. In nur einem Tag zu 100 % finanziert. 2,66 Millionen Yen gesammelt. 266 % finanziert. Der endgültige Produkttitel lautet „Cat years“.
