Die look is admittedly a bit hit or miss, I would’ve preferred nicer artwork for the game, but you know what they say—there’s no accounting for taste.
Gameplay-wise, though, I’m really digging it. Super simple rules, but tons of options and competition. Deciding when to do what is super tense, especially when you’re squeezing every last possible resource out of your colony to get that crucial edge.
You build your 6x6 grid with new landscape tiles and then activate rows and columns using the dice based on color and value. The last activated field gets covered up, though, so you can’t reuse it. Plus, you can use coins to activate single fields on purpose, but that gets more expensive each time. It’s a super simple but really engaging mechanism.

Oh yeah - I also really like Santa Maria! For anyone who doesn't like the theme or has moral concerns about it, the game is available with a slightly revised theme and new artwork under the name Saltfjord. But I still play the good old Santa Maria too :-)

Haven't even noticed the game but the mechanics seem interesting! Maybe I'll take a closer look at it 🤪

I love playing it so much!!! The game mechanics are super smooth and you can optimize your tableau nicely 🤩 so you get lots of bonuses. But other actions are fun too/worth it as well. You can get so lost in the fun that you forget all about the look ☺️
