Game moment
Black Rose Wars
Second-hand Bargain

For better clarity, here’s another post. I recently snagged Black Rose Wars Rebirth for just five bucks on Kleinanzeigen. I’d been eyeing this game for ages, and finally grabbed it online right before a local board game flea market.
Now I’m curious:
Do you also buy secondhand games?
What have been your best board game bargains?

I love buying older games secondhand. So far, I’ve only had great experiences because board game fans are usually pretty fair with each other. Well, okay, I did have one bad experience when selling… but that was sooo long ago… it doesn’t count anymore!

I mostly buy games on the secondary market that you can’t easily find anymore. For example, I managed to get 7th Citadel brand new in shrink wrap, including all expansions, at an awesome price. Same goes for the German Mage Knight Ultimate Edition.

I’ve also been buying a lot of games on the secondhand market lately. It’s a great way to get your hands on Kickstarter or Gamefound titles you might have missed out on. So far, I’ve only had good experiences—most sellers offer fair prices. And if something is overpriced, well, you just don’t buy it! There are already plenty of games sitting on my shelf waiting to be played, so patience really pays off when you snag a bargain. Recently, I picked up Tainted Grail plus expansions at a fantastic price. It was the 1.0 edition, but it’s easy enough to play using the 2.0 rules.

I buy a lot on the secondary market, and most of my experiences have been really positive—I think there are just a lot of nice people in our hobby :)

And here too 🤗 – glad to hear that others have had good experiences as well.

I got lucky once and snagged Frostpunk with its expansion for €50. To this day, it’s still one of our favorite games. I occasionally check out other titles, but usually, I’m looking for something specific.

I've only bought 3 games secondhand so far. Transmissions as a Kickstarter version, but only because it was offered to me. Basically like new, we've never regretted it. And the second was Jäger der Nacht, but not the new edition, the old one with a real board. That was a while ago, it was one of the first games for getting into the board game scene. Unfortunately one figure was missing, so we had to look for a replacement. A bit of a shame but ok. The third was Alhambra with expansion for a tenner. Also just happened to see it, wasn't looking for it. 😅 Was great too. Otherwise I've often been given secondhand games as gifts, like Game of Thrones. In principle I have nothing against buying secondhand, it's just that I've often found the price is barely different from buying new. 🤷🏼♂️
