UPDATE! Capture your collection with a photo
🇩🇪 Original in German
You no longer need to enter your collection (https://playednow.com/sammlung) box by box. Your collection now has a “Photograph Shelf” button. Just take a photo of your shelf, and PlayedNow will identify the game boxes for you.
Here’s how it works:
1. Take a photo or choose one from your gallery. For best results with readable titles, we recommend photographing each individual shelf section one at a time. Multiple photos work better than one shot of the entire shelf.
2. Our image AI reads the boxes. It runs on our own server, not through a cloud provider. No storage occurs; the photo is used solely for recognition.
3. You’ll get a preview grouped into three categories, each showing a cropped view of the box from your photo: Recognized: These games are already checked off. If something looks wrong, just uncheck it. Games already in your collection appear dimmed. Please select: Here, we suggest up to five matching games—tap the correct one. These titles are currently unknown to us and weren’t found.
Already scanned games are automatically recognized and won’t be added twice.
4. With one click, you can add all selected games as “Owned.” Nothing gets deleted from your collection.
Anything left unresolved goes to the “Please Improve” list. For each title, you have three options: Scan barcode: Point your camera at the box’s EAN code—that’s it. The identified title is immediately used as a search term. This search also includes games listed on BoardGameGeek. Remove entry from list: Done. Even after reloading the page, this list stays saved on your device. You can easily pick up where you left off later.
My tip: Good lighting and don’t photograph too many boxes at once. If photos are heavily packed, some titles might be missed. Just snap another photo of the remaining ones separately.
Give it a try and let me know how reliably your shelf was identified. I’d especially appreciate feedback on rare or older games.
We’ve compiled a database of over 25,000 EAN codes. For exotic games, please add them yourself just once (thanks to the BGG integration, it takes less than a minute). After that, anyone in the community can use those EAN codes!
Have fun, and I look forward to your feedback.
Note: Although it’s obvious, the photo was AI-generated.
