Enormity

Sci-Fi Dungeon Crawler

🇩🇪 Original in German

At the convention, we got to check out the prototype of Enormity. It’s a cooperative dungeon crawler with a setting that reminds you of Alien and Dead Space. You play as Spacers fighting your way through multiple scenarios, where you can upgrade your characters, space suits, and weapons between missions. Actions are card-driven and constantly generate noise, which magically attracts all the evil stuff lurking around us. The game was “ENORM” complex—so much so that in one hour, we could only get through the moves of a single round with our gamemaster’s help. Unfortunately, amidst the chaos of the convention floor, it was hard to fully experience the atmosphere the game aims for. Still, I think there’s a lot of potential here, and I’m looking forward to checking it out again on another occasion, when things are calmer and more atmospheric.

I got to play it on Sunday too. Honestly, there was way too much upkeep for me, and all the fun just vanished because of the rule overload. There are two game modes, Extraction and Incursion. We only played Extraction at the show, so sadly I didn’t get to see the actual boss fights, which is a real shame. I also wasn’t a fan of the action selection mechanism with those three cards. Let’s just hope they’re still polishing things up!
