Gunsen

Combat in Feudal Japan

It took a bit, but today we finally got Gunsen on the table, which I bought a few weeks ago. Despite the cover not really being my thing, the game looks pretty nice once it’s set up. It’s an area control game where each round you pick a card from a stack and play it onto one of the color-matched tracks, triggering that card, all previously played cards there, and the printed actions. The first player to reach seven objectives wins, which reminds me a bit of Scythe. The rules are simple, interaction is high, playtime is manageable, there’s light asymmetry, and it supports up to 6 players. A solid mix that will definitely hit the table more often!

Sounds interesting! Are there fights, or is it completely peaceful?

There’s quite a bit of fighting going on, mostly because those are also objectives you need to complete.
