Milan Spiele Überraschungsboxen

🇩🇪 Original in German

I got the Familien Spiel Überraschung Box and the Kinderspiel Überraschung Box 2026 from Milan Spiel at the end of September. There were some cool games in there! What do you think about them? Which ones would you be most interested in right now? For me, it’s definitely Never Dragons—I’ve been wanting that one for a long time. It’s at the top of my wishlist!

Nope, never done it before, and honestly, I wouldn't even consider it. I'm just too much of a "targeted" buyer for that. ;-) I don't know any of them, but I'd check out Samurai Spirit first.

Seedrachen is super. Nice little Tetris puzzler for five on split screen. The rest doesn't ring a bell for me 🤔

Shake The City is also a nice quick game. And Challengers is great for big groups.

Does anyone know Terminus? That didn't ring any bells for me.

Robin of Locksley, but don't ask me why. Something tells me. I bought the SpieleOffensive mystery box twice, and there was always a nice selection inside. I kept some of it, gave some away. One of them is my pile of shame, but at least there was a tutorial round.

Similar to Steffen, I participated in the Spieleoffensive 2x... There were some nice surprises, but I don’t think I’d do it again. Still, I was able to donate some things for a good cause... Your surprise boxes, though, were totally worth it from my point of view. Have fun unboxing!

I only know Samurai Spirit, which didn’t really click with us back then so I sold it on. At first it sounded funny, but admittedly we’re not exactly cooperative players... Rauha sounds the most interesting to me.

Same surprise game haul from Spiele-Offensive. There was even Erde in there, which alone made it worth it. We still haven’t played 2 of the games—Autobahn never really came up, and Forgotten Waters needs a long-term group of at least 5 people, which is unfortunately often tricky 🫣 The other games depend on the group. But we’d definitely buy another surprise box like that. Especially since there are games in there you wouldn’t normally notice.

Exactly those I have too, Autobahn went to a buddy and Forgotten Waters was the program at the last New Year’s Eve 🎇🎆

How is Forgotten Waters? I'm actually really excited about it, it sounds cool.

Hey, we played it as a family with a friend, so we didn’t stress about the timer too much and kept things more cooperative than we’d planned. We had a great time—the voice acting kept getting paused by the screen lock, though! The story was amazing and super fun. There were more frequent situations out on the open sea, but overall it was pretty varied. We played for about 4 hours with breaks. I actually talked about it in a Pile of Shame episode of the podcast (but that was about the previous 4-player round). https://www.brettspiel-news.de/index.php/de/podcasts/14564-557-pile-of-shame-25-vier-spannende-titel-zum-jahresabschluss

I think around €85 is just too much for me if I don’t know what’s inside. Since I prefer buying used games for environmental reasons anyway, the difference is even bigger. And maybe I’m still scarred from Spiel 2024, where I bought a cheaper surprise box that was supposed to contain games worth up to €50 and turned out to be a total flop.

Oh, I always get tempted when I read about those mystery boxes—but luckily, I’ve managed to stay strong so far :D I’d rather just buy the games that actually interest me. Not that I always hate the games from surprise boxes, but you never know what you’re gonna get...

I don’t think I’d have the guts for that... except for Challengers, I haven’t heard of any of these games either, but it’s a nice idea if you’ve got enough space for more games and the time to actually play them. Even with games I buy on purpose and look forward to, it often takes months before we finally get around to playing them...

It's a nice mix. Have fun trying it out. 🙂

Bin here, I'm really thinking hard about what I'd like to have in my collection, and targeted buying makes more sense to me. I don't like leaving it up to luck to get something that interests me.

Hey, Seedrachen is really a very nice game, Challengers is also quite nice, but you get it thrown at you everywhere these days. The other games don't ring a bell for me, but they're probably good too. I also bought the Wundertüte from Spieleoffensive once and have to say, for 49 euros there were some great things in there, though I haven't played everything yet. And I bought the XMas Special from Spieleoffensive twice, and I have to say it didn't really impress me. But stuff like this also helps you discover new games you might never have picked up otherwise.

Is there something similar from Asmodee in local stores? We always go about it this way—giving every game a chance and then quickly moving them on if they don’t stick. The mix of joy when opening them, trying out games you’d never normally consider, and the low loss if you pass them on or donate them makes it a solid deal. The Milan-Box offers a lot of content for the money, while Asmodee’s games were sometimes still pretty fresh.
