While traveling through the Duat, the diminished sun was endangered by forces of darkness. It was guided by a host of gods including a scarab-faced deity named Khepri, god of dawn and the renewal of life. Duat represents Khepri’s never-ending journey through the space between life and death to ensure that the sun will always rise.
